I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who is dieting to lose weight. She described to me how she manages all of her food intake and avoids fatty food. She drinks protein shakes and lots of fruit and vegatables. And she has managed to stay relatively thin.
But here is the thing. Her skin is dry and itchy. She has skin issues such as blackheads and other acne, sometimes quite serious. Her hair is all dry and breaks easily. Regular haircuts to control split ends. Soft easily broken fingernails and poor circulation in her feet. Always cold and finds it difficult to concentrate. When she asked my what I thought, she was horrified that I would say it sounded like not enough unrefined fats in her diet.
The brain is around 60% fat, roughly. If you dont get enough unrefined fats in your diet guess what happens. You use lots of lipids (Fats) to build and maintain your brain, especially Omega 3's. The underlying cells of your skin also use fats to maintain health.
So my best advice is do not avoid foods such as avocado and nuts and seeds. Feel free to eat pasture feed beef and mutton (Never grain fed). Just keep it in balance for a healthy life.
